250×250 mm Neodymium Grid Magnet for Tarhana Production Lines
Key Features
- 250×250 mm square grid magnet with 4 Ø25 mm neodymium rods
- 7,000 Gauss at the rod surface
- Sealed stainless steel rods and two side bars
- Holds wire, screws and steel fragments in tarhana powder
- Sits on a hopper inlet or square chute. No power needed
This 250×250 mm grid magnet is used in tarhana production, after grinding and before packing, to remove metal from the tarhana powder. It has four Ø25 mm neodymium rods held between two stainless steel side bars. As the powder flows between the rods at the hopper inlet, wire, screws, nuts and steel fragments from the grinder are held on the rod surface.

Where Does Metal in a Tarhana Line Come From?
Tarhana is a traditional Turkish soup base made from flour, yoghurt, tomato, pepper and onion. The dough is fermented and dried, then ground and sieved. The dried pieces are ground into powder in a mill or hammer mill. At this stage, steel fragments from the grinding parts, worn sieve wires and screws or nuts left behind after maintenance can get into the product. Staples, wire pieces and other metal from raw material packaging follow the same path.
These pieces can damage the dosing screw of the packing machine and create a risk of metal in the finished pack. Placed where the product falls freely for the last time, the grid magnet takes them out of the flow.
Where Is It Fitted?
- At the inlet of the packing machine feed hopper
- In the square chute at the outlet of the grinder or sieve
- At the opening of the intake hopper where tarhana powder is tipped by hand
The grid magnet sits on the edge of the hopper or chute on its two side bars. As the powder passes between the rods it comes close to the magnet surface, and iron particles are pulled onto the rods.
Why 250×250 mm and 4 Rods?
With an outer size of 250×250 mm it fits hopper openings and square chutes of this size. Four Ø25 mm rods give enough magnet surface without blocking the flow of tarhana powder. The 7,000 Gauss at the rod surface holds wire, screws and steel fragments; for very fine particles, closer rod spacing can be chosen.
How to Clean It
- Stop the line and lift the grid magnet out by its side bars.
- Wipe off the metal and powder build-up on the rods with a gloved hand or a dry cloth.
- Wipe the rods with a dry cloth and put the grid magnet back.
The rods are stainless steel and sealed. They can be washed with warm water if needed but must be fully dry before refitting. Clean at the end of every shift in the first weeks, then set the interval by how much metal builds up.
Limits and Safety
The grid magnet holds ferromagnetic particles such as iron and carbon steel. It does not hold aluminium, brass, glass, stone or plastic, and it does not reliably hold austenitic stainless steel. A metal detector and sieving are needed for these. Do not use the product above 80 °C. Neodymium magnets are strong: keep the grid magnet away from anyone fitted with a pacemaker or other implanted medical device, and from bank cards and electronic devices, and take care not to trap your fingers when bringing it near steel surfaces.
Other Sizes
Grid size, number of rods, rod diameter and Gauss value are made to suit your hopper or chute. For other options, see our square and rectangular grid magnets. Frequently Asked Questions
Does the grid magnet change the taste or colour of tarhana?
No. The magnetic field only attracts ferromagnetic particles such as iron and carbon steel; it has no effect on the tarhana itself.
I have a metal detector. Do I still need a grid magnet?
Yes. The grid magnet holds metal in the line and protects the packing machine, while the metal detector makes the final check on the packed product. Using both together is recommended.
My hopper is not 250×250 mm. Can you make another size?
Yes. Send us the inside size of your hopper or chute, and the grid size and number of rods will be set to match.
