What is a Permanent Magnet?
These types of magnets, also called continuous or permanent magnets, are magnets that continuously emit a magnetic field without receiving additional power from outside. As you can see above, these magnets are classified as:
- Neodymium magnets (NdFeB)
- Ferrite magnets
- Samarium cobalt magnets (SmCO)
- AlNiCo (Alnico) magnets
- Flexible magnets
Neodymium magnets are the strongest magnets found in nature. Ferrite magnets, on the other hand, are used in experiments, motors, and speakers, and are preferred for their high temperature resistance. AlNiCo and Samarium magnets are preferred for their ability to operate at temperatures above 300°C.
