Why 304 and 316 Stainless Steel Coating?

304 and 316 stainless steel coatings are austenitic stainless steels with excellent thermodynamic performance. 316 and 304 stainless steel contain comparable levels of nickel and chromium. These austenitic steels, which can maintain their characteristic structure even at all temperatures, are widely used due to nickel’s stainless properties and chromium’s ability to increase natural corrosion resistance. Chromium, found in all stainless steels, reacts quickly with oxygen environments.

304 and 316 stainless steels, containing chromium up to ten percent of their total composition, prevent harmful corrosive layers that may occur on the material surface. This is because when chromium directly interacts with oxygen, it immediately forms a protective layer on the surface. Therefore, 304 and 316 stainless coating is very beneficial in terms of preventing the corrosive layer and creating a layer with high surface resistance.

Although 304 and 316 stainless steel are similar, the main difference is that 316 stainless steel contains additional molybdenum, which provides resistance against chlorides and other processing chemicals, and this ratio is approximately 2 to 3 percent.
